BLOOMINGTON — Indiana linebacker Jailin Walker is expected to return for Saturday’s game against Nebraska, head coach Curt Cignetti said on Monday.
Walker left IU’s win at Northwestern on October 5 with an undisclosed injury during the first half, and missed the entire second half. Despite the victory, the Hoosier defense struggled — even with Walker on the field. But he and Aiden Fisher have formed a steady linebacker tandem this season, and losing either of them could cause problems.
But Cignetti expressed optimism about Walker’s status.
“J-Walk is a guy you never count out,” Cignetti said. “I expect him to be full speed on Saturday.”
IU has remained fortunate health-wise so far this season.
The Hoosiers lost offensive lineman Nick Kidwell for the season during fall camp. But otherwise, the only real injury issues — until Walker — have involved reserves. And barring something unforeseen, that should remain the case for Indiana’s big game against the Cornhuskers.
