Indiana is down but not out.
While the Hoosiers hope that is the story of their season after dropping three of four in December, it is the current lay of the land in the updated AP top-25 released on Monday afternoon.
The Hoosiers (8-3) dropped four spots to No. 18 after a blowout loss to Kansas on Saturday. The Jayhawks moved up four spots to No. 4, while Arizona moved up four spots to No. 5. Xavier and North Carolina represent IU’s top non-conference wins. Both teams are currently in other teams receiving votes category and are effectively No. 28 and No. 32, respectively.
From the Big Ten, Purdue remains the overall No. 1 team, while Illinois (16) and Wisconsin (17) are now ahead of IU. In the other teams receiving votes category from the league are Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan State.
The Hoosiers have an opportunity to rebuild some momentum this week with games against Elon (Tuesday) and Kennesaw State (Friday) to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Meanwhile, the IU women returned from a 10-day layoff in convincing fashion on Sunday with an 87-24 win over Morehead State. They held steady at No. 4 in the new women’s AP top-25.
Indiana continues to sit one spot behind Ohio State. Both Big Ten squads are 11-0. Iowa (13), Maryland (15) and Michigan (19) are also ranked this week.
The IU women conclude their non-conference slate on Wednesday with an afternoon tip against Butler in Bloomington.
