Darian DeVries has officially hired Nick Norton to his staff with Indiana men’s basketball as an assistant coach, the program announced in a press release on Thursday.
Norton, 29, has spent the last four years on DeVries’ staffs at Drake and West Virginia. He’s been spotted with DeVries on the recruiting trail in recent days wearing neutral gear, even though he had not yet officially left WVU.
“We are excited to have Nick join our staff,” DeVries said in the release. “He brings tremendous knowledge and feel for what we want our program to be about. He is terrific with the players on the floor and brings incredible energy every day to the practice floor.”
Norton joined DeVries at Drake in 2021 as assistant director of operations, and earned a promotion to director of operations for the 2022-23 season. He was once again promoted to assistant coach/director of player development in 2023-24, and followed DeVries to West Virginia with the same role last season.
Norton played at UAB from 2014 through 2018, earning All-C-USA third team honors as a sophomore. He transferred to Drake in 2018 for his fifth season, in DeVries’ first year with the Bulldogs. He averaged 14 points and 5.9 assists per game in 14 seasons at Drake before an injury cut his final collegiate season short. Norton went on to play in two NBA G League games before ending his playing career due to injuries.
