Don’t look now, but here come the Hoosiers.
After a choppy start to the 2024 season, Indiana (5-3-5, 3-1-2 B1G) extended its undefeated streak to five matches (3-0-2) Friday night at Bill Armstrong Stadium with a 2-0 win over Penn State. Freshman midfielder Charlie Heuer found the back of the net twice in the second half.
The Hoosiers snapped Penn State’s own five-game unbeaten run.
IU has scored 12 goals during its five-match unbeaten run. In the eight games prior, the Hoosiers had scored seven goals. Over its last four seasons, Indiana is 20-4-6 (.767) in the month of October.
Going into Friday’s match, IU was No. 35 in the College Soccer RPI. With this latest win, they are clearly in the conversation for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Indiana has made the field a record 37 years in a row.
The Hoosiers are coming off a Tuesday 3-2 comeback win over Kentucky in which they trailed 2-0 at the half.
After a three-match homestand, Indiana will visit No. 22-ranked Michigan Tuesday (Oct. 15) night. Fans can watch the match on the Big Ten Network. That is one of four league matches remaining on the 2024 schedule. The Hoosiers will also see Michigan State and Northwestern at home, and they’ll travel to UCLA. Indiana is currently in fourth place in the Big Ten, two points behind both Ohio State and Maryland.
The Hoosiers won the Big Ten Championship Double a year ago despite a 3-3-4 start to the season.
