On a day when IU basketball fans are already on edge about a major decision that will effect the 2023-24 roster, we learned a coveted backcourt talent is headed elsewhere.
Penn transfer guard Jordan Dingle is headed to St. John’s according to multiple reports.
Indiana’s staff had their eyes on Dingle long before he entered the portal a few weeks ago, and they made contact nearly as soon as they were permitted. He was likely the best fit in the portal for their roster needs. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 23.4 points last season and was second in the country in scoring.
But Dingle, who was also training for the NBA Draft, led a quiet process and has opted to play near home for head coach Rick Pitino for the remainder of his college career.
Irrespective of the decision this afternoon by forward Mackenzie Mgbako, Indiana will continue to pursue a volume scoring guard to pair in their backcourt with Xavier Johnson next season.
A couple additional names to monitor are Toledo’s RayJ Dennis and Marshall’s Andrew Taylor.
