Indiana running back and return specialist Jaylin Lucas has become the latest Hoosier to enter the transfer portal, as he announced Wednesday morning on X, formerly known on Twitter.
Lucas led the Big Ten in average yards per kickoff return in each of his two seasons at IU. He was named an All-American for his return efforts as a freshman, when he averaged 28.14 yards per return and took two back for touchdowns. Offensively, as a freshman, Lucas ran for 271 yards on 49 carries with two touchdowns, and he caught 16 passes for 82 yards.
The Louisiana native returned to IU for his sophomore season with the team looking to make him a core part of its offense. But that role just never fully materialized for Lucas this season. He finished fourth on the team in rushing, with 275 yards on 67 carries with two touchdowns. He began playing as a slot receiver as well, at times, and he increased his production in the passing game. Lucas recorded 34 receptions this season for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
Lucas is the 24th IU player to enter the transfer portal since the season ended. He’s the fifth player to enter after the Hoosiers hired Curt Cignetti as their new head coach.
