Maya Makalusky has added another honor to her growing list.
The IU women’s basketball signee was named Indiana Miss Basketball on Wednesday. The Fishers, Ind product was named Gatorade Player of the Year earlier in March.
Makalusky averaged 22.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game this season at Hamilton Southeastern High. She shot 40.1 percent from 3-point range and 80.3 percent on free throws. She helped the Royals reach the Class 4A state semifinals this year.
Makalusky is the first Miss Basketball winner to join the Hoosiers as a freshman since Jorie Allen (Bedford North Lawrence) in 2019. Sydney Parrish (HSE, 2020) and Ali Patberg (Columbus North, 2015) both won the award, but started their careers at Oregon and Notre Dame, respectively, before transferring to Indiana. Other recipients who joined IU after high school were Marla Inman (BNL, 1992) and Lori Meineriding (Fort Wayne Northrop, 1987).
