It’s a recurring theme at this point. IU jumped out to a quick lead on Sunday afternoon and never looked back.
The Hoosiers closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run and cruised to a blowout win over Quinnipiac at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes scored 22 points as No. 12/9 Indiana ran away with the 92-55 victory. Holmes finished 8-for-9 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line with seven boards and three blocks.
“I thought it was a solid win for our group,” head coach Teri Moren said. … “Another opportunity for us to get better, I did think we got better.”
Joining Holmes in double figures were Yarden Garzon with 14, Grace Berger with 13, and Alyssa Geary with 11. Geary notched her IU career-high going 5-for-6 from the floor. Garzon made 4-of-5 from three, while Berger led the team with six assists.
For the first time since 2019-20, IU starts the season off with a 5-0 record. It’s the third time the Hoosiers have won their first five in Moren’s tenure.
The Hoosiers will travel to Las Vegas during the Thanksgiving break to play in the Las Vegas Invitational against Auburn (Nov. 25) and Memphis (Nov. 26).
“We know we still have a lot of work to do and we’re looking forward to Vegas, that trip and being able to play away from here, on the road against a really good Memphis team and Auburn team,” Moren said.
