Facing a big opportunity on Sunday, Indiana women’s basketball got the job done.
IU squared off with another NCAA Tournament hopeful in Nebraska at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, with both teams looking to strengthen their résumés. And ultimately, the Hoosiers came out on top, cruising to a 76-60 win.
Indiana (14-7, 5-4 Big Ten) rode a massive 3-point disparity to victory. The Hoosiers shot 13 for 30 from beyond the arc, while Nebraska finished just 3 for 11. The Cornhuskers (16-6, 7-4) didn’t hit their first triple until the middle of the third quarter.
The Hoosiers went on a 16-0 run from a Henna Sandvik buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter into the middle of the second quarter, which gave them a relatively comfortable lead for the rest of the game. They held a 36-24 lead at halftime, and put the game firmly out of reach with a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter.
IU also racked up a high assist count on Sunday, something that sparked its strong play in December. The team finished with 25 assists on 29 made field goals, and all nine players who checked in recorded at least one assist.
Chloe Moore-McNeil led the way with seven assists, to go along with 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting, seven rebounds, one block, and four steals. The graduate student went 4 for 5 from 3-point range.
Yarden Garzon scored a team-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a 5-for-9 3-point mark.
Karoline Striplin got back into double figures, shooting 6 for 10 for 13 points with five rebounds and four steals, which tied Moore-McNeil for the team lead.
Sydney Parrish added 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds.
This game falls in Quad 2 for Indiana, as Nebraska entered the game rated No. 34 in the NET rankings, but this is its third win over a top-40 team this season.
IU is back in action on Thursday at home against Rutgers.
