BLOOMINGTON – Indiana women’s basketball had an opportunity to capture another tournament resume boost on Thursday night but fell short by a 74-60 final to No. 19 Maryland inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
The game also marked IU’s senior night as the Hoosiers honored Sydney Parrish, Chloe Moore-McNeil, and Karoline Striplin with pregame festivities.
Both teams started slow in the first quarter with a combined nine turnovers. The Terrapins struggled from the field, shooting 6-of-18.
The second quarter marked a significant weak stretch for IU. Maryland went on a 14-2 run during the last six minutes of the quarter, while the Hoosiers managed to score only six points in the period. Maryland’s defense posed a major challenge, and the Hoosiers shot just 3-of-14 from the field. The Terps took advantage and took a 30-20 halftime lead.
Indiana (17-11, 9-8) chipped away at the Terps’ lead in the third, but Maryland still led by seven heading into the fourth. Yarden Garzon made her mark by adding 10 points in the period. She ended up being the Hoosiers’ leading scorer with 18 on the night. Parrish and Striplin each finished in double figures, while Moore-McNeil added four points.
The Hoosiers went on some small runs but couldn’t generate enough momentum to draw close in the final period. The Terrapins (22-6, 12-5) were led by Shyanne Sellers with 25 points.
The Hoosiers finish out their regular season with a rivalry rematch at Purdue on March 2 at 2 p.m. ET.
