Indiana Women’s Basketball is on the verge of making Big Ten history.
The program heads into Sunday’s Senior Day regular season finale against Maryland averaging just under 10,000 fans at home games this season.
That benchmark has been met just three times in the history of Big Ten Women’s Basketball.
To reach that mark, IU says they need a crowd of at least 11,835 Sunday.
Indiana hosts Maryland at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Three seniors will be honored in their final regular season game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday. Five year players Mackenzie Holmes and Arielle Wisne along with two year player Sara Scalia will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
The Hoosiers will go for the season sweep of the Terps on Sunday. They picked up their first ever win at Xfinity Center on Jan. 31 when IU defeated Maryland 87-73. Holmes (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Scalia (22 points) combined for 47 points as sophomore guard Yarden Garzon added 11 points for the Hoosiers.
An opportunity awaits the Hoosiers on Sunday to finish the regular season undefeated at home for the second time in as many seasons. With a win over No. 4 Iowa on Thursday, the Hoosiers improved to a perfect 14-0 at home this season. They are tied for the 8th longest home winning streak in the country and the longest in the Big Ten. Additionally, they are just one of 12 teams in NCAA Division I women’s basketball to remain undefeated at home this season.
Attendance has grown substantially under Teri Moren. In her first season at IU in 2014, the average attendance per game was 2,609.
By the 2021-22 season, IU moved up to an average of 4,726 fans per game, and a year ago that average jumped to 8,104.
To accommodate the larger crowds, Indiana moved to a hybrid model that includes both reserved seating and general admission.
