They have become a constant on the national scene.
Indiana women’s basketball will start the 2022-23 season at No. 11 in the Associated Press preseason poll, it was announced on Tuesday.
That marks the 58th consecutive week the Hoosiers have appeared in the Associated Press poll, dating back to the 2019-20 season. They also came in at No. 11 in the final poll of the 2021-22 season.
IU is coming off consecutive Sweet Sixteen appearances. This year the Hoosiers are highlighted by fifth-year guard Grace Berger and senior forward Mackenzie Holmes. While they must replace starters Ali Patberg, Nicole Cardano-Hillary and Aleksa Gulbe, the program will also welcome seven new players to its roster this season including former Indiana Ms. Basketball junior guard Sydney Parrish and senior guard Sara Scalia. That duo transferred in from Oregon and Minnesota, respectively.
Indiana was selected to finish second (media) and third (coaches) in the annual Big Ten preseason polls earlier this month as Berger and Holmes earned spots on the All-Big Ten preseason team.
From the Big Ten, only Iowa (No. 4) comes in ahead of the Hoosiers in the preseason AP poll. Ohio State (14), Maryland (17), Nebraska (22) and Michigan (25) are also ranked.
In their non-conference schedule, IU will travel to No. 5 Tennessee and host No. 12 North Carolina.
