Indiana won its first Big Ten women’s swim and dive crown in five years in dramatic fashion.
The Hoosiers outscored four-time defending champion Ohio State by a half point Saturday evening to secure the title. It was the closest Big Ten women’s swim and dive competition in history.
The Hoosiers walked it off, placing second in the 400-yard freestyle ahead of the third place Buckeyes to earn the necessary advantage over the Buckeyes.
“I am still in a state of disbelief,” IU head swimming coach Ray Looze said. “What our women did tonight was simply unbelievable. We basically witnessed a near-perfect performance by everyone. This is a championship that I will never forget!”
It was Indiana’s seventh Big Ten Championship overall and first since 2019.
Indiana women’s diving will next head to Louisville, Kentucky, for NCAA Zone Diving Championships March 14-16, looking to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships a week later.
