Redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton has entered the transfer portal, he announced Monday evening.
Newton was Mike Woodson’s first high school commit, but he was never able to make a meaningful impact during two seasons in Bloomington.
The Georgia native played in four games and averaged 1.5 points per appearance in 2024-25. Newton dealt with multiple injuries during the season and had midseason surgery. He also missed the entire 2023-24 season due to an injury.
Newton is the fourth IU player to enter the portal since the end of the season, following Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau and Gabe Cupps.
