LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Indiana starting freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino will not play when No. 14 Indiana faces No. 10 Arizona on Saturday.
Hood-Schifino was on the floor with his teammates but not in uniform when the Hoosiers took the floor 60 minutes before tip-off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Battling back soreness, Hood-Schifino has now missed three straight games after producing his best effort of the season against North Carolina on Nov. 30. The injury is not expected to be serious or long-term, but it is clearly now lingering for the talented first year point guard.
The Pittsburgh product is averaging 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in seven games.
Indiana’s message to the media has been the same before each of the last three games: “Indiana freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino (back) will be inactive tonight against Arizona,” is the only information provided by the program.
He could be seen trying to warm-up before the Rutgers game. In Las Vegas, Hood-Schifino is walking with no noticeable limitations and he was casually shooting the ball during warm-ups.
Trey Galloway will get his third straight start with Hood-Schifino out. He scored a career-high 20 points on Wednesday against Nebraska.
Indiana junior guard Anthony Leal is back in uniform today after spraining his ankle against Miami (Ohio).
