It’s going to be quite a ride in the coming weeks as new IU football coach Curt Cignetti rebuilds the IU roster and staff.
As we’ve already seen with his assistant coaches, it would be reasonable to expect some influence from Cignetti’s No. 24 ranked 11-1 James Madison team.
JMU starting quarterback Jordan McCloud plans to enter the transfer portal, and he’s certainly someone Cignetti could try to bring with him to Bloomington.
The 6-foot and 200-pound McCloud threw for 3,413 yards and 32 TDs in 2023. He completed 68.9% of his passes and threw nine interceptions. He also ran for 311 yards and eight touchdowns. McCloud was voted the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.
Wherever he lands will be his fourth college. McCloud transferred to James Madison after spending two seasons at Arizona from 2021 to 2022. He transferred to Arizona after two seasons at USF.
McCloud has one year of eligibility remaining.
Indiana quarterbacks Brendan Sorsby and Dexter Williams both have entered the portal, but they could decide to return to IU. Tayven Jackson and Broc Lowry are both still with the team.
Meanwhile, Cignetti has also offered 2024 JMU commit Jah Jah Boyd a scholarship at Indiana.
Boyd announced his de-commitment from JMU in the moments after Cignetti was announced as the next IU coach. And on Saturday he announced the offer from IU.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Boyd played at Philadelphia Roman Catholic. He has 4.4 speed and could play cornerback or receiver in college.
Boyd is rated a 4-star by ESPN, and a 3-star by 247Sports and On3. He had offers from Penn State and Virginia Tech. He was the highest-graded player in the JMU 2024 class before he de-committed.
