The IU football program has been training with the strength and conditioning staff over since everyone returned to campus, but the Hoosiers are about to return to the practice field.
Here are a few key things to know about the next six weeks:
TODAY – MARCH 4
IU football hosts its annual Pro Day for NFL scouts and other personnel in Bloomington. While only Kurtis Rourke and C.J. West received NFL Combine invites, this day expands the opportunity for former IU players to perform combine-like activities in front of the league and gives them a chance to earn training camp invites, free agent contracts, etc.
Here are the expected participants at the Pro Day: Asbury II, Shawn; Carpenter, James; Carr Jr., Lanell; Coby, Andison; Cross, Miles;, Doss, Cedarius; Evans; James; Horton, Zach; Jones Jr., Terry; Lawton, Ty Son; Mangum-Farrar, Jacob; McCormick, Derek; McCulley, Darin; Price, Myles; Rourke, Kurtis; Sanguinetti, Josh; Toomer, Nic; Walker, Jailin; Wedig, Trey; West, CJ; Williams, Ke’Shawn.
SPRING PRACTICE STARTS THIS WEEKEND
The 2025 Spring Practice schedule will begin on Saturday, March 8. It runs six weeks through April 19 when IU hosts the spring game inside Memorial Stadium. The spring game is the only session open to the public.
College teams are allowed to have 15 spring practices, with limitations on the amount of live contact. IU coach Curt Cignetti said last year his team only tackled once — during the spring game. He also says he doesn’t always use the full allotment of practices and hours.
In part the spring will be utilized by the staff to determine holes in the roster that need to be addressed via the transfer portal.
“Sometimes less is more. More isn’t always more,” Cignetti said last year. “That’s the maximum amount they give you. That doesn’t mean you have to use ’em all.”
“We sort of have a blueprint and a way of doing things, a way we practice, getting the players accustomed to the way we practice: up-tempo, fast, organized, constant movement.
“All you’re looking for is sort of individual development, but start to build that kind of team identity, this is who we are, this is how we practice, this is how we play, this is how we play every play, fast, physical, relentless, finish one play at a time, six seconds a play, every play has a life and a history of its own. Finish, not affected by success, not affected by failure, on to the next play.”
The Daily Hoosier will have full coverage of Indiana’s spring practices.
SPRING TRANSFER PORTAL WINDOW
The transfer portal will reopen for 10 days beginning on April 16 and closing on April 25. Expect some comings and goings for Indiana as the coaches complete their spring evaluations. IU added multiple key players last year after spring practice, including D’Angelo Ponds and C.J. West.
