Five-time Olympic medalist Lilly King pulled off a hat trick in her home state.
King, a native of Evansville, Ind. and former IU swimmer, finished first in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
King finished the race with a time of 1:05:43 and had the only time under 1:06. Her performance in the final ranks as the fourth fastest time in the world this season. King wore an IU cap during the race.
Indiana University’s all-time leading medal-winner among women’s athletes, King becomes IU’s first women’s swimmer to reach a third Olympics.
The 27-year-old King took home the gold medal in the 100-meter event in the 2016 Rio Games and won bronze in Tokyo.
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris run from July 26 to August 11.
