On Sunday, Indiana forward Malik Reneau became the 55th player in program history to surpass the 1,000 point mark for his Indiana playing career.
One of his teammates might be the next.
Reneau has now amassed 1,005 career points in just under three full seasons at IU, while Trey Galloway is not far behind him with 949 points. It’s going to be a close call for Galloway, who is averaging 7.7 points per game this season. He could only get as little as five more games to score another 51 points — depending on how far the Hoosiers go in the postseason.
Against Purdue Sunday, Reneau scored 15 points and added six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, becoming the 18th Hoosier all-time and first since De’Ron Davis at Michigan in 2020 to hit every shot from the field with a minimum of seven attempts in the game.
Over the last four contests, the Miami, Fla., native has averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. He has shot 57.4% (27-for-47) from the floor over that stretch.
If Reneau returns to IU for his senior season he’ll have a clear chance to pass 1,500 points and enter the programs all-time top-20 in points.
With nine assists on Sunday, Galloway moved into the top-10 on the all-time career assists charts at IU with 398. 257 of that total have come in the last two seasons as he has taken on more of a primary ball-handler role. Sunday was his seventh career game with at least eight assists. The Hoosiers are 6-1 in those games.
Galloway is currently ninth on the all-time assist chart. He’ll have a good chance to finish at least eighth if he can pass A.J. Guyton’s 403. Randy Wittman is seventh with 432, while Yogi Ferrell is the all-time leader with 633.
Galloway also looks like a lock to become the all-time IU leader in games played as a Hoosier. He has played in 135 through Sunday and is just two behind Ferrell’s 137.
