Mike Woodson and all three of his assistant coaches were down in Florida today to visit key recruiting pipeline Montverde Academy.
That’s according to a post by Adam Zagoria on his Twitter page.
The visit comes at the start of week two of an NCAA recruiting period when college basketball staffs can make in person visits with prospects.
Indiana had three players from Montverde in Bloomington for official visits just over a week ago.
5-star forward Liam McNeeley, 5-star big man Derik Queen, and 4-star guard Curtis Givens all came to IU over the same weekend, Sept. 8-10. All three recruitments continue to be highly competitive as they enter the final stages. Each players still has official visits remaining with other programs.
Indiana has also been involved with 2024 5-star Montverde forward Asa Newell.
Montverde has become a vital part of Indiana’s recruiting efforts over the last few years. They landed Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau from the prep powerhouse in the class of 2022. Assistant coach Kenya Hunter helped the Hoosiers break through with Montverde, and now the IU staff has several key relationships.
The IU staff has been on the road for the last week visiting several prospects. So it isn’t particularly surprising that they had a presence at Montverde today. But Indiana’s ability to land Montverde products in the 2024 class may make or break their efforts this fall. And sending the entire staff on a plane to Florida is further evidence of the importance of the school and its players to Woodson and company.
