Mike Woodson’s future as the IU basketball coach has been a popular topic in recent weeks. But the speculation came to an end Wednesday evening.
He’ll be back for the 2024-25 season, The Daily Hoosier can confirm via sources.
Zach Osterman of the Indy Star appeared to be the first to report the news. Well known national reporters Jon Rothstein and Jeff Goodman also reported Woodson’s return.
Woodson is 60-39 in three seasons at Indiana, including a 29-29 record in the Big Ten.
The 65 year-old led IU to the NCAA Tournament each of his first two season in Bloomington. The 2022 NCAA appearance was Indiana’s first since 2016.
But with a 16-13 record, Woodson’s Hoosiers appear unlikely to return this month for a third straight season. IU is ranked No. 101 nationally in the NCAA’s NET rankings.
Indiana lost eight of ten games in January and February, giving rise to questions about Woodson’s status for next season. He’s working under a contract that runs through March, 2027.
The news came just hours before IU tips at Minnesota in their penultimate game of the regular season. The Hoosiers and Gophers play at 9 p.m. ET (BTN).
