Another day, and there’s more to talk about when it comes to class of 2024 5-star point guard Boogie Fland.
This is a recruitment that appears to be in its final month.
And things are intensifying.
Indiana and other schools went to Stepinac H.S. today to visit the 6-foot-3 Fland.
It’s an NCAA recruiting period right now. College coaches are allowed to, supposed to and in fact are on the road making in-person visits throughout September and October. It seems a bit silly to document their every move. But when it comes to late-stage recruitments like Fland’s, the visits matter much more.
What’s the takeaway from Indiana pulling a resource away from practice to visit Fland today? This is IU’s second trip to New York in two weeks to see him. Mike Woodson was out there before, and it’s an assistant coach today. In essence, their actions say they believe they have a legit chance to land the White Plains, N.Y. product.
But so does Alabama, who also sent someone to Fland’s Stepinac H.S., all via multiple reports, with Andrew Slater reporting first, we think.
The interesting question to ponder, can IU now visit Fland with the confidence they’ll land 5-star forward Liam McNeeley? If so, the conversation begins to transition to him being part of a highly ranked class. Fland told The Daily Hoosier that’s important to him:
“It’s big,” Fland said of being part of a highly ranked 2024 class. “You want to come in with a good bunch of players and try to win championships. So to come in with good players, that’s what you want.”
Yesterday, Rivals national analyst Rob Cassidy said he expected Fland to announce a commitment before the start of his high school season, and on Wednesday Cassidy had more to say about the 5-star guard.
Specifically, Cassidy said he expects Fland is about to pivot to decision making mode, and should announce before Oct. 31. As he stated yesterday, Cassidy said again he believes it will be Indiana, Alabama or Kentucky for Fland.
Cassidy also said something today we mentioned yesterday — Kentucky based class of 2025 5-star guard Jasper Johnson is a potential reclass to 2024 option, with UK on his radar.
There’s another 2025 guard in same category who could also end up at Kentucky — 5-star Darryn Peterson.
Cassidy also says the recruitment of Tyler Betsey is likely down to Cincinnati and Alabama, so he’s another 2024 target you can likely mark off the list.
But back to Fland, he visited Indiana in June, and by all accounts it was a very good visit. Here’s what he told The Daily Hoosier about his time in Bloomington:
