UConn assembled an elite high school class of 2025 replete with former IU basketball recruiting targets.
Their haul includes five-star in-state guard Braylon Mullins and top-25 center Eric Reibe, who both visited Bloomington last fall. But it no longer includes former IU target Darius Adams, who obtained his release from Dan Hurley and the Huskies and is back on the market.
According to a report by national 247Sports analyst Travis Branham on a podcast, Indiana’s new staff has been in touch with Adams.
“Since Adams has reopened his recruitment, he’s already heard from nearly 15 schools,” Branham said on the College Basketball Show on Tuesday. “That comes as no surprise. He’s a McDonald’s All-American and one of the top high school players in the country. Tennessee is one of the schools that is showing interest and could really pick up some steam with Adams. Tennessee recruited him heavily out of high school. They finished in his finalists. Tennessee missed out on Rodney Rice. I’ve also been told that North Carolina has shown interest, as has Maryland, Indiana and Alabama, among others. While this is open, I am told that this thing can move fairly quickly.”
Cincinnati was involved with Adams’ recruitment, meaning new IU assistant coach Drew Adams could be leveraging some prior connections here. The La Lumiere Prep (LaPorte, Ind.) guard and McDonald’s All-American visited IU in 2023.
We’ll see if this goes anywhere. Adams is a true shooting guard, and Indiana has amassed a wealth of guard talent on its new roster. He’d be a great addition, but a lack of clear playing time likely drove him out at UConn and the outlook might appear similar in Bloomington.
Put IU in the unlikely category for now, but we’ll see where it goes.
Adams chose UConn over Tennessee, Alabama and Michigan State, and those schools are involved once again. Branham seems to be hinting that Tennessee is the favorite.
In a separate national 247Sports report, Adams is supposed to visit Georgetown and Maryland this weekend, so he may be widening his process beyond his prior top choices. Obviously and Indiana visit would be a turning point to watch for.
