If pressed, both Joe Tipton and Jamie Shaw of On3 would give Indiana the edge to land 5-star Jalen Haralson right now.
Let’s be clear, these aren’t hardcore predictions by either analyst.
Think of them as more of a pencil to the eye, if predictions had to be made right now, kind of thing.
But as Haralson begins to take visits and narrow his recruitment, IU is in a good spot in the eyes of the two well-respected national reporters.
Shaw made his pick for IU with 25% confidence two weeks ago, and Tipton chose the Hoosiers as the favorite for Haralson with 35% confidence on Monday. You’ll need a subscription to On3 to read why each thinks Indiana is the current favorite.
According to the On3 Industry Average, Haralson is the No. 10 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 3 small forward. His position at the next level is up for debate. But at this point in time, he’s a playmaker and a facilitator irrespective of where Haralson is positioned on the floor.
While Indiana’s guard situation could be uncertain next year if both Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle were to return, Haralson’s versatility means he could play the three alongside that duo if that role opens up.
The 6-foot-6 Haralson is getting set to embark on a series of visits. So far he’ll see Indiana on Aug. 31, Notre Dame Sept. 7, and Michigan State Sept. 14. He has six other schools in his top-nine he could still choose to visit: Duke, Auburn, Purdue, Gonzaga, Missouri and Kansas.
Haralson is expected to make a college decision in the fall, and sign during the early period in November.
IU coach Mike Woodson offered Haralson a scholarship before he played his first high school game, and he’s been recruiting him as hard as he’s pushed for any high school player since. Indiana has highlighted to Haralson the success Jalen Hood-Schifino had at IU during his one-and-done season before becoming a first-round NBA Draft choice in 2023.
“I was Coach Woodson’s first offer in our class of any player, and they’ve been recruiting me the longest,” Haralson told TDH. ” Obviously I’ve been down there a whole lot of times with my brother, so I know a lot about the program. I’m looking to go down there and talk to them more about my development in their program.”
