The New York Knicks formally announced their re-signing of former IU basketball star OG Anunoby on Saturday.
Multiple reports have pegged Anunoby’s new deal at five years and $212.5 million, the largest contract in Knicks history.
In a graphic posted on X by IU staffer Adam Howard, Anunoby’s new contract is also “the largest contract signed by an Indiana Hoosier.”
Knicks beat writer Fred Katz of the Athletic says Anunoby’s massive contract is fully guaranteed.
“Since his arrival in New York, OG has personified the type of player and teammate this organization and city embody,” said Knicks president Leon Rose in a release. “OG’s offensive and defensive presence is undeniable and was a huge part of our success last season. We are thrilled to bring OG back to New York and continue the process of building a team and culture that makes our fans proud.”
Anunoby, 26-years-old (6-7, 240-pounds), averaged 14.1 points (48.8% FG; 39.4% 3PT), 4.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks over 34.9 minutes in 23 games (all starts) for the Knicks after being acquired from the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 30, 2023.
Since Anunoby’s first game on Jan. 1, he ranked fifth in the NBA with 1.7 steals per game and 10th with 3.1 deflections per game (min. 20 games). He held a positive +/- in all 23 games with the Knicks, which marked the longest positive +/- streak in Knicks history since the 1996-97 season (when +/- was originally tracked). Over the 23 games in which Anunoby played, the Knicks held a 20-3 record.
