MEMPHIS — Rakease Passmore is maximizing his exposure and reps against elite competition during his final spring and summer of AAU basketball. He’s played on both the the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring, along with the Nike EYBL here in Memphis.
“I like it because it’s different. It’s way faster,” Passmore told The Daily Hoosier about playing on the Nike EYBL with Team Thad.
Ranked No. 48 in the 2024 class by the On3 Industry Average, Passmore is a 4-star and the No. 16 small forward according to that outlet.
The 6-foot-5 Passmore has been incredibly efficient from 2-point range over his first three games in Memphis. He’s made 13-of-17 from inside-the-arc. Passmore is known as a good perimeter shooter, and he made 38 percent from three on 145 attempts during his junior season at Combine Academy. He hasn’t been able to get that part of his game going so far in Memphis, making just 1-of-8 from deep.
Passmore has more than 30 offers from schools all over the country, and he’s in the process of narrowing things down. A list cut should be coming relatively soon.
“I was going to drop a top-10 on May 10 but I pushed it back,” he said. “I haven’t figured out a day I’m going to drop that yet.”
The Florida native took an official visit in Bloomington back in late November. He told The Daily Hoosier what still stands out about the trip to Indiana.
“Mike Woodson. He’s my guy,” Passmore said. “And just the campus and the fans. It’s just different.”
Passmore is one of the top athletes in the 2024 class. He runs the floor at a high level and routinely produces highlight reel dunks in transition. He sees a fit at Indiana when it comes to playing style.
“They started to play through their wings, and I kind of like that,” said Passmore, who could play the two or three at the next level.
Passmore says he noticed IU signing another wing recently in 2023 5-star Mackenzie Mgbako, a sign that Indiana is a place where elite wing talent can be productive.
Passmore says he talks to the IU staff regularly and sees a fit. What does a successful wing look like in Woodson’s system?
“Just getting to your spots, playing hard defense, and rebounding and just being a team player,” Passmore said.
He wouldn’t say for sure, but Passmore says Indiana will probably make his list cut. His Combine coach told The Daily Hoosier in Memphis that Indiana continues to be a school Passmore is very interested in.
Passmore says he plans to take more visits this summer before making any decisions. He didn’t say for sure which schools would get those visits, but when asked if a return trip to IU was a possibility, he said probably.
Stay tuned for more quick updates from Memphis.
