One of Indiana’s main point guard targets in the class of 2025 is Mikel Brown.
Originally from Orlando, Brown is ranked the No. 14 player nationally in the class of 2025 according to the On3 Industry Average. He’s the No. 2 point guard in the class according to that service.
The Daily Hoosier caught up with Brown for a quick Q&A at the Adidas 3SSB event in Rock Hill S.C. He plays on that circuit for Austin Rivers Southeast Elite along with 2024 IU target VJ Edgecombe.

TDH: I know Indiana offered you a year ago. Have they been staying in close contact with you since then? Who do you talk to from IU?
Brown – For sure. I talk to Coach (Brian) Walsh, Coach (Adam) Howard, and Coach (Mike) Woodson. They all communicate frequently and consistently. They all text me throughout the week. They talk to me about how I fit their system. They definitely communicate with me a lot.
TDH: What do you know about the Indiana program?
Brown – I know it’s a great traditional program going back to the 1970s and 1980s, it’s been a really good program, a lot of good players that have gone through there. More current players like Victor Oladipo, and Jalen Hood-Schifino just got drafted. And seeing their guards, and how they let them play, and play through their mistakes, that’s been really good to see.
TDH: Tell me what you thought about Hood-Schifino’s one-and-done season at Indiana?
Brown – When I first saw him come in, I assumed he was a two-year player, but seeing how they let him go from the jump, let him be who he is, that was really good. And when I watched him play, he was a very smooth player, makes his teammates better, he was a leader. It was phenomenal how they just let him rock, and that’s pretty big for me.
TDH: When I saw you here last year you appeared to be under 6-foot. How tall are you now? Are you still growing?
Brown – I’m 6-foot-2 now. The doctors say I could possibly get to 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4. Anything is a blessing. Even if I stay where I am, I can develop.
TDH: Do you have a visit set up with Indiana at this point?
Brown – Not as of right now, but we are definitely going to schedule something with them in the future. Right now I’m just focused on playing out the summer. When the offseason comes, and then I get back to high school ball, I’ll probably look to set up visits.
TDH: Tell me what you believe are the strengths of your game, and what do you want to get better at right now?
Brown – The strength of my game is I can do it all. On the offensive and defensive ends I’m going to play hard. I can shoot it, I’m a big playmaking guy, I’m a leader on the offensive end, I try to be as vocal as possible with my teammates. And on the defensive end, I’m just going to give it my all and fight hard on the defensive end. I’m trying to work on staying level-headed through the ups-and-downs, and trying to get to the basket and finish more.
