The Daily Hoosier caught up with New Jersey-based class of 2025 guard Darius Adams at the Westfield, Ind. Nike EYBL stop over the weekend.
IU offered the consensus top-25 prospect last summer. He transferred to La Lumiere in LaPorte, Ind. for his junior season.
The Indiana staff had eyes on Adams for multiple games over the weekend.
Playing for the PSA Cardinals, Adams is averaging 15.1 points per game this spring while shooting 36.2% from three. Over the weekend, Adams shot 40.7 percent from three on 6.8 attempts per game.
TDH – How did the transition to La Lumiere and a national schedule go?
Adams – The transition went great. They treated me like family. I love it there a lot. They helped me develop my game and it was good overall.
TDH – What’s it like being teammates with Jalen Haralson?
Adams – We’re pretty tight. He’s a funny, goofy guy, so off the court it’s fun being around him, on the court it’s fun playing with him.
TDH – Do you and Jalen ever talk about recruiting, potentially teaming up at the next level?
Adams – Yeah, we do here and there.
(Note: Adams and Haralson took a visit to Indiana together back in September)
TDH – What’s your recruitment process looking like right now?
Adams – Later this summer after Peach Jam and everything I’ll list my top schools and then take visits in the fall. I plan to commit early and sign in November.
TDH – Who are some of the main schools you are talking to about setting up visits?
Adams – Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Indiana are some of the main schools that I’m talking to right now.
TDH – What are going to be the main factors that drive your college decision?
Adams – Play style. I’m most comfortable playing in a fast-paced system. I want to go play for a school that I can impact right away. I want to go to a school with a good basketball environment.
TDH – Where do things stand with Indiana?
Adams – They talk to me a lot. They’re going to be in my top schools.
TDH – I know you’re from New Jersey. Do you know Mackenzie Mgbako?
Adams – I do know him, but not that well or anything.
TDH – What are your impressions of the Indiana program?
Adams – Great coach, they seem very interested. Indiana is all about basketball, which is very cool.
TDH – What makes Mike Woodson a great coach in your eyes?
Adams – He comes from an NBA coaching background. He knows what it takes to get to the league and can help me develop. He helps his players improve.
TDH – Everybody knows you’re a shooter. What else do you want to improve this summer?
Adams – I would say finishing through contact around the rim, getting stronger, and my ball handling.
