Indiana starting forward Race Thompson came out for pre-game warmups in street clothes in Ann Arbor on Saturday afternoon and will not play when IU and Michigan tip just after 6 p.m. ET at the Crisler Center.
Thompson missed four games earlier in the season with a knee injury. Indiana confirmed Thompson is out for “precautionary reasons.”
On his pre-game radio spot, head coach Mike Woodson indicated Thompson may be able to play next week when the Hoosiers travel to Northwestern.
Jordan Geronimo is the starter in Thompson’s place against the Wolverines. Geronimo has not had a significant role of late as he recovered from a calf strain. Malik Reneau and Kaleb Banks are both likely to see significant minutes off the bench in the IU front court.
In 20 games with 19 starts, Thompson is averaging 7.5 and 5.3 in 22.3 minutes per contest.
