After a 5-0 start, IU football is ranked again for the first time since early in the 2021 season.
The Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Sunday afternoon has the Hoosiers slotted in as the No. 24 in the country.
Indiana was last ranked by the coaches and in the AP poll in the 2021 preseason.
Joining IU in the Coaches Poll from the Big Ten are Ohio State (3), Oregon (6), Penn State (7), Michigan (10), USC (15) and Illinois (25).
In the AP Top-25 released an hour later, the Hoosiers were ranked No. 23. All of the same Big Ten teams were also ranked in the AP poll.
Indiana held steady in the ESPN analytical models after their 42-28 week five win over Maryland.
Their Football Power Index has the Hoosiers at No. 16 (down a spot from 15 a week ago), with a 39.6% chance to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff. Yes, you read that right. IU was projected to be the No. 77 team in FPI before the season.
ESPN’s SP+ model saw IU move up a spot to No. 29 after the win over Maryland after starting the season No. 81.
Looking ahead to next weekend, Indiana has opened as a double-digit favorite (around -10.5) at Northwestern. FPI gives the Hoosiers an 85% chance to start the season 6-0.
The Wildcats (2-2) are coming off a bye week. Their wins have come against Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Illinois.
