The Big Ten men’s basketball tournament will move from Chicago to Indianapolis with games to be played at Lucas Oil Stadium, Anthony Calhoun of WISH-TV reported Thursday morning.
The move has been anticipated for most of the past month, especially since the NCAA announced that Indiana would host the entire NCAA Tournament. Illinois has more stringent COVID-19 protocols than Indiana, and playing the tournament in Indy could allow teams that make the tournament to stay in town.
Indiana coach Archie Miller expressed his support for the move earlier this week in a Zoom press conference with the media.
“I think it does make sense if that were to happen,” Miller said. “It protects the teams that are in the tournament with less travel. I think the city of Chicago is pretty difficult to navigate right now with the hotels, with social distancing protocols and eating. A lot of things that people aren’t thinking about when you go to a city for multiple days and be together. It just isn’t doable.”
