Class of 2024 top-20 big man Derik Queen has had a lot of people guessing.
Just days after all three of the main national recruiting outlets suggested Queen was likely to announce a commitment during the Nov. 8-15 early signing period, it now appears the Baltimore, Md. product needs more time to make a decision on what college he’ll attend next year.
247Sports national analyst Travis Branham is reporting Friday morning via sources close to Queen no decision is expected to be forthcoming over the next few days.
The source told Branham Queen intends to watch his top teams play games and compare notes before reaching a decision, most likely sometime after the early signing period.
The 6-foot-9 Queen announced a final four of Indiana, Maryland, Kansas and Houston recently.
Queen attends Montverde Academy in Florida where he teams up with good friend and IU class of 2024 signee Liam McNeeley.
It appears McNeeley will be IU’s only class of 2024 signee during the early period. The 6-foot-7 wing signed on Tuesday. Queen took two official visits to Indiana with McNeeley over the last 14 months.
In addition to Queen, the Hoosiers have been tied to guards Daquan Davis and Joson Sanon as additional possibilities in the 2024 class. The IU staff can also evaluate the transfer portal and decommits during the spring to build out their 2024-25 roster. At a minimum IU will have two open scholarships for that team’s roster as things stand at this moment.
Players who do not sign during the November early period can still announce a verbal commitment at any time, but they cannot sign their national letter of intent until the spring. The spring signing period runs from April 17 to May 15.
