Indiana’s offense should get a boost on Saturday evening in Pasadena.
6-foot-5 wideout Donaven McCulley is expected to return from injury and be available to play when the Hoosiers face UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.
That’s according to a report by Matt Zenitz, a national reporter for 247Sports and CBS Sports.
McCulley suffered a head/neck area injury during the week one win over Florida International. He was hurt after completing his lone reception of the season for nine yards. He was ruled out prior to the week two game vs. Western Illinois.
Although his season is off to a slow start, big things are expected of McCulley in 2024 after he returned to Indiana from the transfer portal.
The Indianapolis product had multiple impressive games as the 2023 season progressed, including 11 catches for 137 yards at Illinois, 6 catches for 79 yards at Maryland, 5 catches for 67 yards vs. Wisconsin, 4 catches for 96 yards at Penn State, and 5 catches for 48 yards at Purdue. He scored five touchdowns over the last five weeks of the season.
In his second season at wide receiver, McCulley started 11 of 12 games on the outside and caught a team-best 48 passes for 644 yards. His six touchdown grabs were the most on the team and five came over the last five weeks of the season. He caught 60% of his targets during the season with his 10 contested catches ranked No. 3 among Big Ten wideouts in 2023.
His 48 grabs were tied for No. 10 in the Big Ten, his six touchdown catches ranked tied for No. 6 in the conference and a 13.4 yards per catch average ranked tied for No. 14 on the B1G charts. His six touchdowns led the team in 2023 and are the most by a wide receiver since Ty Fryfogle caught seven in 2020. His 48 catches are the most since Whop Philyor hauled in 70 during the 2019 season.
He earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention following the 2023 campaign.
McCulley was a 4-star quarterback out of Lawrence North H.S. in Indianapolis. He switched to wide receiver after his freshman season. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
