Indiana’s Teri Moren said thanks but no thanks to one of the top jobs in college basketball.
According to a report by women’s college basketball writer Mitchell Northam, Moren was pursued by Tennessee to become their new head coach but rejected those overtures.
A native Hoosier, Moren is leading IU women’s basketball through the best era in the program’s history, including six NCAA Tournament appearances, three Sweet Sixteens and an Elite Eight appearance along with nine-consecutive 20-win seasons.
In 2022-23, she guided the program to its first regular season Big Ten championship in 40 years and an overall record of 28-4. Moren became the program’s all-time winningest coach, recording her 189th win at Illinois in January 2023. She eclipsed the 200-win mark at IU in a victory over Tennessee Tech in the 2023 NCAA Tournament first round.
Moren is 226-99 (.695) during her ten years at IU. Included in those wins are double-digit triumphs over Tennessee each of the last two seasons.
The Vols have won eight NCAA Tournaments from 1987 to 2008, all under former head coach Pat Summitt, and were the runner-up five more times.
Tennessee ended up hiring Marshall’s Kim Caldwell, according to multiple reports.
