Indiana Athletics teams are expected to continue to wear Adidas apparel for the foreseeable future.
According to a report by the Indianapolis Star, IU is in the process of extending its current agreement with its apparel partner for another 10 years.
A source told The Daily Hoosier several months ago this new agreement was in the works, as IU covets its position as one of Adidas’ premier brands. “Get used to the idea of Adidas,” we wrote in February.
Indiana’s current deal with Adidas is worth $53.6 million over eight years.
It will be interesting to read the new contract when it becomes available in the coming weeks to see how the terms change as parties navigate the name, image and likeness era. Specifically, how does it address the potential for players to negotiate their own shoe and apparel agreements? And, are apparel deals as valuable as they once were?
IU players including Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino landed their own deals with Adidas in recent years.
Indiana and Adidas have been partners since 2004.
