Another piece of Indiana’s 2021-22 nonconference schedule emerged on Thursday evening.
According to a report by Jon Rothstein on Twitter, the Hoosiers will face Louisiana Lafayette in Bloomington.
Led by head coach Bob Marlin, the Ragin’ Cajuns finished the 2020-21 season with a 17-9 record while competing in the Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana Lafayette finished No. 201 according to the KenPom.com rankings.
UL’s two seniors from the 2020-21 season, All-Sun Belt Conference guard Cedric Russell and starting forward Dou Gueye, are expected back. Russell led the team in scoring last season with 17.2 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent from 3-point range. Gueye averaged 9.9 points and 8.2 rebounds last season and was part of a three-man rotation of bigs that included returnee Theo Akwuba, the Sun Belt defensive player of the year.
The Cajuns’ transfer additions include former Nevada and Arizona big man Jordan Brown and former Creighton and Memphis guard Antwann Jones. Starting guard Mylik Wilson left UL for Texas Tech.
Indiana has never faced the Ragin’ Cajuns. The Hoosiers are 9-0 all-time against Sun Belt Conference teams.
Four of Indiana’s 11 nonconference opponents are now known, with Merrimack, Northern Kentucky and Notre Dame joining Louisiana Lafayette. The Hoosiers will also play in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge and could also play a Big East team in the Gavitt Games. The Hoosiers will play 20 conference games.
