It appears Brad Stevens will not be the next coach of Indiana basketball, according to a report.
National college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman posted on X a direct statement from the Celtics executive on Friday afternoon.
“BREAKING: Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens told The Field of 68 that he is not a candidate for the Indiana University job,” Goodman said on X.
Goodman’s post included this statement by Stevens that wasn’t quite as direct.
“I thoroughly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I get to work with every day,” Stevens told The Field of 68.
Stevens has been thought to be Indiana’s top target for multiple coaching searches, but it appears he has once again rejected their overtures, barring some unforeseen late twist or turn in the process.
An Indiana native, Stevens led Butler to back-to-back national championship game appearances in 2010-11 before leaving that program to become the head coach of the Boston Celtics. He went on to become their director of basketball operations in 2021.
