The Indiana staff continues to walk the necessary and delicate tightrope that is roster management in the transfer portal era.
Despite possibly having no scholarship openings for their 2022-23 team, the Hoosiers have one transfer guard currently on campus in Wichita State transfer Dexter Dennis, and another is headed to Bloomington this weekend.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that West Virginia transfer guard Sean McNeil will visit Indiana this weekend. That visit is one of at least four planned this week by McNeil, along with Virginia, Cincinnati, and Ohio State. Rothstein also reported McNeil plans to visit Louisville at some point.
Rothstein had previously reported McNeil had a final six that included Texas Tech, but no visits to Lubbock were reported in his latest update on the 6-foot-3 shooting guard.
McNeil fills a need for Indiana as an experienced perimeter shooter with some ability to create his own attempts.
He averaged 12.2 points per game in each of the past two seasons and shot 37 and 39-percent from three during those two years. He averaged 31.5 minutes per game over the last two seasons and started 55 times. McNeil is also a career 86.1 percent free throw shooter.
Indiana’s connections to McNeil go back to his time as a JUCO prospect in 2019 when he played for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. He transferred from there to West Virginia.
Indiana currently has no available scholarships on its 2022-23 roster, although that could change if Trayce Jackson-Davis were to keep his name in the NBA Draft, or another current player were to enter the transfer portal.
