Romeo’s Chase of Bailey May be Back On | New Albany is Rolling | Includes Video

On a night when Indiana basketball 2018 recruiting target Romeo Langford was honored for being a McDonald’s All-American, one has to wonder if he is making a final push for the ultimate Indiana high school basketball honor:  all-time scoring king.  After missing a game earlier in the year it appeared that Romeo would come up short in his pursuit of Damon Bailey’s all-time mark.

In the words of former Indiana football coach Lee Corso, “Not so fast my friend!”  Langford has scored 107 points in his last two games, and for now, the chase is back on.

On Saturday, New Albany hosted Columbus East.  The Bulldogs were dominant once again, winning the game 89-60.  Langford was dominant once again as well in the win, scoring 44 points to lead the way.

New Albany improved to 17-1, on the season.  The Bulldogs are ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, and have now won 14 straight games.

Langford is 4th on the all-time list and would need 438 points to catch all-time scoring leader Damon Bailey.

Here is a summary of Langford’s performance on the season:

As you can see, Langford would need to average 39.8 points over his remaining games and have his team reach the state finals in order to surpass Damon Bailey and become the state’s all-time leading scorer.  On the year thus far Romeo is averaging 36.3 points per game.

Here is the current all-time IHSAA boy’s scoring list as Langford closes in on Deshaun Thomas:

THE INDIANA BOYS ALL-TIME SCORING LIST (IU PLAYERS IN BOLD)

    1. Damon Bailey, 3,134
    2. Marion Pierce, 3,019
    3. Deshaun Thomas, 3,018

    5. Brody Boyd, 2,632
