UPDATE: Based on an e-mail from the event organizer, the new Holiday Hoopsgiving College Pre-Sale Ticket Release Date is Friday, Aug 18th at 10 a.m. ET
As previously announced, Indiana will take part in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. In connection with the event, the Hoosiers will face Auburn on Dec. 9.
The matchup will take place at a time still to be announced. Tickets are set to go on sale next week (Aug. 15), and fans can sign up via e-mail for more information and notifications at the Holiday Hoopsgiving website. Mississippi State will also play on Dec. 9 against an opponent to be determined.
Based on information obtained by The Daily Hoosier via a records request, IU will receive a $125,000 guarantee payment for participating in the event.
IU and Auburn have only met once before — a 107-90 Hoosiers win in Indianapolis in March, 1987. That was a round of 32 win for Indiana that led to their 1987 national title.
The game will be a homecoming for many in the program. IU coach Mike Woodson led the Atlanta Hawks from 2004 to 2010. Assistant coach Yasir Rosemond is from Atlanta, and the staff heavily recruits the state of Georgia. IU players Kaleb Banks and Jakai Newton are also from the Atlanta area.
The Auburn matchup is one of four high major games for IU during the non-conference portion of their schedule. Indiana will also play Kansas and two of UConn, Louisville and Texas.
The Holiday Hoopsgiving games will be aired on the ESPN Networks.
