One of Indiana’s top remaining class of 2022 guard targets is set to come off the board in ten days.
Top-30 prospect Jalen Hood-Schifino posted on his Instagram page on Saturday afternoon he will announce his college decision on August 24. In his post, Hood-Schifino suggested the date is tied to late basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who wore the jersey numbers 8 and 24.
Hood-Schifino recently announced a final five of Indiana, Memphis, Texas, Florida and Tennessee. Of those schools, he only took visits to Indiana and Tennessee based on what is known publicly, and the IU visit appears to have been his most recent. Of course in the new world of college athletes monetizing their name, image and likeness, factors beyond visits will play a role in not just Hood-Schifino’s commitment, but all future decisions.
After his late June visit to Bloomington, the IU staff made a strong push during the July live period. They often had multiple members of the coaching staff watching his games at the Nike EYBL action in South Carolina.
Hood-Schifino is right on the fringe of being a 5-star recruit. He is ranked No. 24 nationally in the class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite. The Montverde Academy product is the No. 3 combo guard among high school seniors according to that same service.
IU currently has two commits in the 2022 class — in-state guard C.J. Gunn, and Georgia forward Kaleb Banks.
