ANN ARBOR – Turnovers have proven to be a recurring challenge for Indiana all season. Against Big Ten opponents, IU has only had three games where their miscue total was in the single digits.
And against Michigan on Wednesday night, the turnover plague made its return to help hand the Hoosiers a 70-67 loss inside the Crisler Center.
Indiana (15-9, 8-6) dealt with foul trouble in the first half, with Sydney Parrish and Chloe Moore-McNeil having to spend extended time on the bench. IU maintained a two-point lead into the break, even with 11 giveaways going into the locker room.
Michigan pulled ahead by as much as six coming early in the third. However, at around the five-minute mark, the Wolverines would score their last points of the quarter. Indiana would go on an 11-0 scoring run to finish out the period as they grew their lead to 46-39.
Everything was set up for the Hoosiers to earn a road win backed up by that solid third-quarter effort..
But Michigan (18-7, 9-5) made a nice response in the fourth, and couldn’t miss late. They finished the final quarter 71% from the field and made all of their last five shots. That would generate a three-point lead, and IU was forced to foul and couldn’t recover. The Wolverines had some nice performances from Jordan Hobbs and Syla Swords, who each finished with double figures.
Karoline Striplin had a monster night on offense for the Hoosiers, scoring 24 of her 28 total points in the second half. Outside of her effort there wasn’t much support. Sydney Parrish was the second-leading scorer with 14.
The Hoosiers amassed 18 turnovers, marking the 11th time they’ve had 15 or more.
Indiana is back at home to face rival Purdue on Saturday, Feb. 15 at noon Eastern.
