He just needed a couple extra days.
Class of 2022 4-star wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr. signed his national letter of intent on Friday and has now officially joined the IU football program.
The Indianapolis (Lawrence North H.S.) product was the lone verbal commit who did not sign on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. Cooper wanted to learn more about new offensive coordinator Walt Bell and understand IU’s plans at the quarterback position.
“There have been several changes since we committed, so we needed to have a few conversations and some questions answered before we felt comfortable,” his father Omar Cooper, Sr. told The Daily Hoosier.
Cooper is a 247Sports Composite 4-star, the No. 311 player overall in the 2022 class, and the No. 45 wide receiver. He is the 14th highest rated player ever to sign with IU in the rankings era.
The 6-foot-2 Cooper was named the Wide Receiver Mr. Football in Indiana for 2021. He had 43 receptions for 702 yards and five touchdowns this fall.
As of this publication, Indiana’s 2022 class is ranked No. 18 in the country and No. 4 in the Big Ten. For a list of the complete class, GO HERE.
