The in-state recruiting class of 2021 is loaded, and one of the two players gaining the most notoriety at the top of the list is Fort Wayne’s Caleb Furst.
Furst, who attends Blackhawk Christian School, is ranked as the No. 31 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. He has interest from a number of programs around the Midwest in a recruitment that appears likely to keep expanding.
Indiana offered the 6-foot-9 forward a scholarship in October. Furst has been to Bloomington on multiple occasions and he attended a game in February against Ohio State.
For his sophomore season, Furst averaged 19.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
Blackhawk won the 2019 1A Indiana state championship, and Furst scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds and five blocks in the title game.
Furst will be playing a year up for the U17 Indy Heat program on the Nike EYBL AAU circuit this spring and summer. It will be the highest level of competition he has faced in his young career, and thus a good opportunity to further develop and showcase his abilities.
Below is Furst’s sophomore season mix tape. For his age, Furst is a physically imposing and athletic big man. He has good length, is a good finisher, moves his feet and runs the floor well, and can beat defenders off the bounce.
During his final two years at the high school level Furst will likely look to continue to develop his off hand and perimeter shot as he further readies his body for higher levels of competition.
You can watch Furst and the Indy Heat this spring in Atlanta (April 26-28), Indianapolis (May 10-12) and Dallas (May 24-26).
