Indiana will have another familiar name returning on its 2019-20 roster.
A source tells The Daily Hoosier that Vijay Blackmon will be with the Indiana program for the upcoming season. We are still working to confirm his precise status with next year’s team (i.e. walk-on or scholarship). He will be a senior on the roster.
Blackmon had previously entered his name in the transfer portal to evaluate other options.
A 2019 Academic All-Big Ten guard, Blackmon appeared in seven games during the 2018-19 season, scoring seven points in 12 minutes of action. Five of his points came in the season opening win over Chicago State.
The younger brother of former IU star James Blackmon, Jr., Vijay transferred to Indiana from St. Francis (Ind.) and sat out the 2017-18 season under the NCAA transfer rules.
At St. Francis, a NAIA program, he averaged 9.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 22 games for the 2016-17 season.
At Marion High School playing for his father James, Sr., Vijay scored 1,500 points and helped lead the Giants to the 2016 Class 3A state title.
Indiana is currently evaluating Vijay’s younger brother Jalen as a potential recruiting target in the class of 2021.
Vijay, a Marion, Ind. native, graduated with an exercise science degree in May.
