The Big Ten Network released its profile on Indiana’s 1981 national title team this week.
The documentary includes interviews with all of the stars of the team including Isiah Thomas, Ted Kitchel, Landon Turner, Ray Tolbert, Randy Wittman and more.
Despite a preseason top five ranking, Indiana finished their nonconference schedule with a 7-5 record including a loss to Texas Rio Grande Valley in late December that knocked them completely out of the national rankings.
But Indiana would rally to win 11 of their last 13 Big Ten games, finish 14-4 in conference play, and win the Big Ten outright. In late February something clicked with this team and they went from good to dominant. The Hoosiers starting beating nearly everyone they played by double figures. That carried all the way through to the national title game against North Carolina. IU won their four NCAA tournament games leading up to the championship by an astounding average margin of 25 points.
