It was the game Nebraska’s administration wanted.
And they got it.
Playing against 90,000 hostile fans and Nebraska in their famous “black shirt” uniforms, Indiana put together the signature win of its memorable 2019 season in Lincoln.
IU clinched bowl eligibility behind a career best effort from Peyton Ramsey. The Hoosier quarterback threw for 351 yards and rushed for another 42 while accounting for a total of three touchdowns.
Former athletic director Fred Glass talked after the game about the significance of the win and achieving bowl eligibility against the Cornhuskers.
“To hit both of those things today at Nebraska was particularly gratifying, particularly knowing Nebraska’s staff had no respect for our program,” Glass told the Indianapolis Star.
Receiver Whop Philyor, who accounted for 14 catches and 187 yards, echoed Glass’ sentiments.
“They got what they wanted,” Philyor said of Nebraska.
Indiana and Nebraska will meet again in 2022, unless they face each other for the week nine “champions week” in 2020.
