Indiana class of 2021 newcomer Tamar Bates gave an interview this week with Aaron Torres.
The pair discussed Bates’ high school career, his decision to attend prep school, decommitting from Texas, committing to Indiana, and readying for his first season of college basketball. Bates will arrive at IU in early June.
After a series of upgrades by the recruiting sites, Bates recently became a 5-star according to the 247Sports Composite. He is listed as the No. 27 player in the class and the No. 5 shooting guard.
The 6-foot-5 Bates played his senior year at IMG Academy and averaged 11.4 points and shot 40.0% from long distance. A two-time All-State honoree at Piper High School in Kansas City, Kansas, Bates averaged 22.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior while leading them to a 21-1 mark and a spot in the Class 4A state semifinals.
