It wasn’t his best night, but in a matchup of two of the state’s top teams, Tayven Jackson came through in the end.
Jackson led Center Grove on a final minute scoring drive to save his team’s perfect season going into the Indiana high school playoffs.
The 6-foot-5 younger brother of IU basketball forward Trayce Jackson-Davis managed the clock masterfully and delivered a scoring strike with just seconds remaining to lead Center Grove to a 17-13 come from behind win. Jackson overcame two interceptions earlier in the game against a previously undefeated and nationally ranked Cathedral squad.
Jackson’s recruitment has grown substantially over the last six months. A three-star recruit, he is rated the No. 29 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2022 by the 247Sports Composite.
While IU was the first power-five program to offer a scholarship, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Arizona State, Rutgers, Iowa and Minnesota have all followed.
Jackson has led Center Grove to a perfect 9-0 regular season. The Trojans have been ranked in the top-20 nationally this fall.
Through 8 games Jackson was 60-of-101 for 947 yards with 9 TDs and two interceptions while playing in a run first offense and for a team that has blown out most of their opponents. Jackson had added 82 rushing yards and 3 more scores prior to Friday’s contest.
