Watch as former IU football coach Lee Corso tells the story of Indiana’s dramatic come-from-behind win at Iowa to open the 1979 season.
There were multiple storylines to the game. It was legendary Iowa head coach Hayden Fry’s first with the Hawkeyes, and Iowa defensive back and future college coach Bob Stoops was beat on the game winning touchdown pass.
According to Corso’s account, Indiana trailed 26-3 at halftime and he walked out on the team in the halftime locker room. The Hoosiers racked up 332 yards to 97 for Iowa the in the second half and outscored the Hawkeyes 27-0. The 1979 Hoosiers would go on to win the program’s first postseason game, the Holiday Bowl.
Well known for his gameday predictions, the 86 year-old Corso also makes the call for IU in the 2021 edition of Indiana vs. Iowa.
